Who We Are
Team ADDICT (Analyzing Delay Discounting through Impulse Control Training) is a four-year undergraduate research team at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Our Mission
Existing research establishes that drug addiction and impulsivity are connected to each other in a cycle. However, whether or not the link leading from addiction back towards impulsivity is a causal one requires further inquiry. Many have focused on the toxicity of the drugs involved with addiction when probing this question; it is our goal to instead to focus on the effects of reinforcement scheduling. We intend to analyze the effects of this component on the addiction/impulsivity cycle, so as to analyze its effects independently of drug toxicity.
Research Question
Can the reinforcement schedule of drug use increase a person's level of impulsivity?
