We are happy to announce that FedCentric Technologies sponsored Junior Colloquia this year. As a part of the sponsorship, they offered prize money and other services to select teams. Congratulations to our very own 2016 Gingrich-Firebaugh Scholarship Recipient!

Brianna is a Chemistry and Psychology double major on Team BIASES, and is hoping to pursue research in environmental chemistry after graduation. She is currently pledging Alpha Chi Sigma, the professional chemistry fraternity, and hopes to become a member by the end of the semester. She has volunteered with various organizations on campus, including Hungry Harvest. She is also a member of the American Chemical Society.

Gemstone at U21 Monterrey Conference

The Office of International Affairs highlights three of our Gemstone students who attended the U21 Undergraduate Confernce in Monterrey, Mexico! Tom Mumford (2018), Casey Lim (2017), and Melanie Zheng (2017) represented their respective teams at this conference on "A Global Perspective on Aging Societies."

FedCentric Technologies Supports Gemstone Junior Colloquium

September 20, 2016

FedCentric Technologies LLC, a government contractor specializing in High Performance Data Analytics, is pleased to announce its new collaboration with the Gemstone Honors Program. Starting this fall, the College Park based company will be sponsoring prizes for quality research, as determined by the presentations at Junior Colloquium. First place winners in the Bioscience and Cyber Security categories will receive financial support for their ongoing projects. First and second place winners will also receive logistical support for their ongoing projects, which includes access to FedCentric Laboratory’s supercomputing platforms.

Gemstone at the U21 Conference

This summer three of our very own Gemstone Students travelled to Monterrey, Mexico to present their research at the Universitas 21 Conference. Melanie Zheng represented Team INJECT as she presented her team's work on liposomal drug delivery. Casey Lim, Team VESSEL, Tom Mumford, Team MATRIX, and Jon Hoffman, Team DIRE also participated in the conference. Click here to read more about Melanie's experience.

Current and Former Gemstone Mentors to be Honored at Faculty and Staff Convocation

Current mentor of Class of 2018 team BioChips, William Bentley, and former Gemstone mentor, Rama Chellappa, are being recognized as Distinguished University Professors at the Faculty and Staff Convocation at Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 14th. Former mentor, Steven Anlage, is also being honored with the Distinguished Scholar-Teachers award. Click here to read more.

Gems Camp 2016: Move-In Information for Tuesday, August 23rd

All students registered for Gems Camp should have received an email from gemscamp@umd.edu with a confirmation packet, which contains important information regarding move-in, camp check-in, and a packing list for camp. This email was sent to the email address listed on the student’s registration form. Additionally, all students should have received the following email message HERE If you have any questions regarding Gems Camp or did not receive any confirmation emails, please email gemscamp@umd.edu or call 301-458-0784.
We can’t wait to see you in a couple weeks!
